Welcome
to the Elders' Institute e-News
This Month's
Tip for Ruling Elders
When pastoral care visiting, be sure to keep this and other "Be's in your bonnet":
Be watchful. You will learn a lot by noticing uneaten meals, empty fridges and altered surroundings.
For more "B's" to keep in your bonnet when making pastoral care visits, click
here and read the new tool for pastoral care visiting. The Elders' Institute (EI)
is developing new tools, so be sure to check out the Elders' Tool Box on a
regular basis. If you have a subject you'd like us to address, email your
query or topic to elders@standrews.edu
with "Tool Box" as the subject.
Pre-Assemby Workshops (PAW) 2009
This year, PAW 2009 will take place at Chedoke Presbyterian Church in Hamilton, Ont., on June 6. Join with other Presbyterian elders from across Canada to explore Presbyterian questions and Presbyterian answers to those questions. Workshop topics include the following:
- Elders rule! How do we make decisions – so we can make decisions effectively?
- What skills do we need to read the Bible – so we can be inspired anew?
- The giver or the receiver? Who is changed the most – so we can be partners together?
- Lead on! How can we lead into the future together – so we can lead effectively?
- How do we judge a book by its cover – so we can select appropriate resources?
- How do we take care of body and soul – so we can care for the whole person?
This year's lunchtime speaker is Cheol Soon Park, Moderator of the 134th General Assemby.

| Elders' Institute on Facebook
As mentioned last month, the Elders' Institute is now on Facebook. We're happy to report that we already have 50 Facebook "friends." We've had an active discussion about deacons courts, and we welcome discussions on other topics of interest to elders. Of course, upcoming courses and events will also be announced in the EI Facebook group. If you're on Facebook,
search for the group "Elders' Institute, St. Andrew's Hall"
and add it to your list of groups. Invite other elders
you know to join this Facebook group too. If you haven't joined Facebook
yet and would like to, click
here.

| Living Faith: A Closer Look
EI is offering a brand
new online course this spring: Living Faith: A Closer Look. This
course is written and taught by Stephen Hayes, convener of the committee
that produced Living Faith: A Statement of Christian Belief. For more information
about this and other courses offered by the Elders' Institute, click
here. |
