This Month's
Tip for Ruling Elders
“When cure is not possible, care is …” One key tool to facilitate a “good” death is spiritual reminiscence, which includes encouraging storytelling, letting people know they will be remembered, reminding them of their value and affirming their legacy. Read one of the Elders' Institute's newest tools, Spiritual Needs at End-of-Life, in the Elders' Tool Box for tips and tools for those who address spiritual needs at end-of-life.
Register Today for Pre-Assemby Workshops (PAW) 2009
This year PAW 2009 will take place at Chedoke Presbyterian Church in Hamilton, Ont., on June 6. Join with other Presbyterian elders from across Canada to explore Presbyterian questions and Presbyterian answers to those questions. This year's lunchtime speaker is Cheol Soon Park, Moderator of the 134th General Assemby.
Register before April 1 to take advantage of the early-bird special. Groups of six or more from the same church receive an additional discount! Phone Kathleen toll-free at 1-866-794-8888 if you want to register as a group. There will be a prize for the congregation that has the most registrants at PAW. Register online at www.eldersinstitute.ca. |
Announcing a New Initiative!
A leadership training program for Mandarin- and Cantonese-speaking ruling elders and lay leaders will be developed in partnership with the lay education program at Presbyterian College, Montreal. Watch for new resources, an online course and workshops in your area in the next two to three years! This new project has been made possible by a grant from the Ewart Endowment. |
Living Faith: A Closer Look
There are still spaces left in the Elders' Institute's
newest online course, Living Faith: A Closer Look. Register today to be sure to get in. This
course is written and taught by Stephen Hayes, convener of the committee
that produced Living Faith: A Statement of Christian Belief. It runs from April 27 to June 5. For more information
about this and other courses offered by the Elders' Institute, click
here. |
| Elders' Institute on Facebook
The Elders' Institute is becoming a growing presence on Facebook. We had a virtual event
— Elders' Unite — and increased our membership from 55 to 67. We are sure there are more elders out there on Facebook, so let's try to have more than 100 on Facebook by Easter. Click on this link to join: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=62646771576 (or copy and past it into your browser). |
