to the Elders' Institute e-News
The sun may be shining, but the
Elders' Institute staff is busy working on plans for this fall and for
2010.

Serving
as a Clerk of Session: Boning up on the Basics
The Elders' Institute is meeting a demand for clerk
of session training with this new online course. This fall's class
is already full with 5 people on the waiting list, so the Elders'
Institute has already enlisted writer and instructor Ted
Siverns to teach this course again in the fall of 2010. One
minister called inquiring about taking the course himself since
his session doesn't currently have a clerk and he'd like to be able
to train someone in this capacity. For more information or to register
for the 2010 class before it fills up, visit www.eldersintitute.ca.

Elder
Training Workshops The Elders' Institute is already planning its 2010
on-the-road workshops schedule. Director Roberta Clare is happy
to travel across Canada—whether to rural or urban locations—to
provide key training for ruling elders. Workshop topics have included
Elder Basics: The Call and Role of Ruling Elders, Pastoral
Visiting, Spiritual Mentoring, Finding & Keeping Volunteers
and Fighting Burnout. Roberta is also
happy to develop new workshop topics to meet the needs of your elders.
For more information or to book Roberta for a 2010 workshop for
your session or presbytery, phone our toll-free line, 1-866-794-8888,

New
e-Source: Leadership Habits for Great Session Meetings
The Elders' Institute is pleased to announce the
availability of its newest e-source, Leadership Habits
for Great Session Meetings written
by Peter
Coutts. It is designed for sessions as they consider new habits
for conducting session meetings. Excellent work habits help ruling
elders in their leadership roles to concentrate on what is important
and to create time to focus on the tasks before them. For more information
and to order this or other e-sources click
