Serving
as a Ruling Elder
The Elders' Institute will be running its popular elder basics course for the third time this year. This fall it will be taught by Leslie Walker from October 5 to November 13. This online course is intended for new elders looking for some orientation to their ministry, potential elders considering a call to eldership and experienced elders wanting a refresher course. Some computer experience is recommended to take Elders' Institute online courses. There are only a few spots left in this fall's class, so register soon. For more information or to register

Elders Institute Workshops
In 2010, Elders' Institute director Roberta Clare will be runnning workshops from Vancouver to Cape Breton with various places in between including Edmonton-Lakehead Presbytery, Calgary, as well as Thunder Bay and Geraldton, Ontario. To add your session or presbytery to her itinerary or for more information about workshops, email Kathleen or phone our toll-free line, 1-866-794-8888.

happy to develop new workshop topics to meet the needs of your elders.
At the request of Calgary churches, the Elders' Institute is currently developing a workshop specifically for church secretaries, which is to be piloted in the Presbytery of Westminster this winter. |
Honouring Long-Standing Elders
The Elders' Institute is pleased to honour ruling elders for long-time service. Do you know an elder who has served for over 50 years? Pat White of Alexandra Presbyterian Church, Brantford does, so she interviewed Orland Harrison--whose service was recognized at the Pre-Assembly Workshops (PAW) this June--so we can share his story in the Elders' Institute's fall newsletter. If you have an inspirational story about a special elder in your congregation, we'd like to hear it and share it with other elders. Be sure to check out our special project, Honouring our Ruling Elders on our website. |
