About the Elders' Institute

Advice from Elders

The Elders’ Institute (EI) consults ruling elders actively engaged in ministry to help identify relevant topics for courses, workshops and resources and assist in the planning and promotion of EI programs.

The Link (Wisdom from the Grassroots)

The Link’s primary responsibility is to counsel the Elders’ Institute staff on effective ministry from the perspective of ruling elders and lay leaders in the local church. The Link identifies needs, concerns, joys and challenges and its members work to promote EI in the grassroots.

The Advocates (Support and Promotion)

The primary responsibility of the Advocates is to champion the ministry of the Elders’ Institute by identifying and networking with the “movers and shakers” within the church structures.

The Feedback Groups

Two feedback groups provide informal input into the Elders’ Institute by responding to occasional requests for specific feedback. Two email listserves – one for ruling elders and another for teaching elders – comprise the feedback groups. To generate creative ideas, membership in these groups remains fluid.

Governance and Accountability

The Board of Management of carries the overall responsibility for the operations of the Elders’ Institute. The Elders’ Institute is accountable to the General Assembly of The Prebysterian Church in Canada through the St. Andrew’s Hall Board which reports to the Assembly through the Committee on Theological Education.
