Course Description

A Spiritual Journey through the Gospel of Mark

We live in a society where many claim to be spiritual. But what does it mean to be spiritual? And further, what does it mean for spirituality to be “Christian”?

This course is designed to fulfill several purposes. First, it is about developing a spirituality that is more deeply Christian. Second, it is about developing such spirituality by reading and meditating upon the earliest gospel account in our Scriptures. By studying the gospel account as a whole, rather than in bits and pieces, there is opportunity to understand its overall message much more profoundly. Third, through specific questions followed by prayers inspired by the reading, the gospel is  studied with a devotional focus. The aim is not only to understand but to experience how the movement of life leading through death to resurrection is not only about Jesus the Christ, but a summons for the student (disciple) to follow that path in faith also. Through daily reading, meditation, reflection and prayer over a six-week period, the aim is to develop a deeper understanding of the gospel, a deeper trust in self-reflection, a deeper familiarity with prayer and a deeper intimacy with the God revealed and embodied in Jesus.
